Windy Days and Stormy Nights

The weather has been absolutely frightful in my area lately. My heart goes out to all those in the southern States who have lost their lives to the storms that have ripped through their homes. More locally, however, today I want to send my heart out to the family of a community member who recently passed away. Her funeral is today, and the gloomy weather does nothing to ease her family's pain. Even if she may not have realized it herself, Michelle made an impact on many people's lives, and will be greatly missed.

I'm Back!

I have been simply neglectful and awful to you lovelies. Let me give you a quick explanation of my prolonged absence. I finished my undergrad (which meant exams and final papers) and a move in the last week. Talk about exhausting! But never fear, I'm back now, and have some exciting and inspiring things to share with you in the coming days!

I will leave you with the cupcake creations I made for our Easter celebration this weekend.

The ones in the middle are bird's nests with eggs in them! They were a lot of fun to make, but more importantly, they were a big hit and extremely delicious! Until later, my loves!

Outdoor Living

Hello darlings! Did you think I'd forgotten about you? I'm back to share a post with you because I have some free time today. With spring finally upon us, I am obsessed with outdoor living spaces because I can now spend the majority of my days outside. Jan Showers has designed some of the most beautiful and functional outdoor spaces that I can only imagine utilizing. Outdoor living space = added to my wishlist for my future house.

Psstt... I still have one more final, one more term paper and a move to complete by Tuesday... normal blogging schedule will resume by the end of next week! Thanks for your patience, loves xo

What I'm Wearing Today...

So this is actually what I wore yesterday, but I thought I'd share it today. Essentially, my entire outfit is from Forever 21 (even the necklace pictured below), with the exception of my peep-toe sandals, which were bought from Payless years ago. What can I say, I love me some Forever 21!

I also bought a new spring jacket from Walmart this weekend which I think is so fun! Originally, my momma spotted this gem and suggested I get it. But me, being wise with my money (ya right) decided to wait until funds weren't as tight. So here it is!
Since I want to be a primary teacher, I think it's okay for my fun personality to come through my clothing a little. I love the vibrant colour and the belt which creates a visible waistline.

On an unrelated note, it's finals week, so my posts will be sporadic, delayed, or non-existant. Don't get angry with me my loves, I will be back in full-force next week! xo

Tea is the cup of Life

...why not spend a dreary Sunday afternoon sipping tea out of a pretty tea set like this one? I'd love to start collecting teacups and saucers because they are so beautiful and elegant. It's a trend that I wish would come back to fashion.

Decorating with teacups is a genius way to display beautiful craftsmanship, and it infuses a space with feminine, whimsical charm.

This shelving unit displays gorgeous and intricate teacups and saucers.

Using teacups in your drawer helps you organize your jewelry. What a genius idea!

Placing arranged stacks of teacups in a vignette with other fantastic elements on a mantle creates a cozy, cottage-like feel.

Have a wonderful and relaxing end to the weekend, darlings!

bright spring delight

Spring is in full force! I sleep with my window open a crack so I can hear the birds chirping when I wake up. It's glorious! These clothes capture the essence of happiness that spring brings- join me in a little bright spring delight.

Life in Colour Pt. 3

I decided to conclude this mini-series with a bedroom that is chock-full of colour. The purple, turquoise and yellow palette is quite bold, but I think they all complement each other nicely. I opted for simplicity with this one because the colour scheme was unusual. While I don't think I would do this in my own house, I sure had fun creating it!
Have you ever used the purple/turquoise/yellow colour palette? If not, would you ever consider using it after seeing how it comes together here?

Mary McGee in High Gloss

The latest issue of High Gloss went live today and to say I was excited is a bit of an understatement. I grabbed myself a cup of coffee (my ritual while reading my online mags) and then cozied up for some eye candy and heart palpitations. Overall, to my disappointment, I was not intrigued by much that the issue had to offer except for this:

L.A-based designer Mary McGee's home is an oasis of white walls, fabrics and accessories. Her use of texture and pops of colours to make white interesting and comfortable is essentially my ideal style. I may have died and gone to heaven.

Life in Colour Pt. 2

Earlier this week I posted this mood board of a living room with bright and cheery spring colours. To continue with this theme, I made a bathroom that is bright and fun with a hint of feminine glamour.

I really wanted to make this space to be an oasis to just relax and rejuvenate. I used metallics, a chandelier and an intricately carved mirror with pops of pink to bring in the glam factor and some feminine charm. The bright green wall colour on the top half and the bead board on the bottom create a sense of whimsy to backdrop the blue and pink accents. The blue patterned chair and curtains round this room off so that one specific colour doesn't overwhelm the space. This just goes to show that unexpected colour combinations can work!
What do you think of this colour combination? Could you see yourself getting primped in this space?

Blue Skies and Sunny Days

Due to the gloomy and rainy skies that cover my city today, I am wishing and hoping for warmer weather and brighter skies. To me, the ultimate summer colour combination is blue and yellow. Inspired by this photo, I went scouring about for some of the best yellow and blue items to prompt summer to come a little faster.

Life in Colour

I recently made this mood board to celebrate the emerging spring colours around us (and also to procrastinate). I love the playfulness of this room, which is balanced by dark, warm woods and textured wallpaper. Despite the variance of colour, texture, pattern and fabric, I think this room works!
What do you think? Could you see yourself getting cozy in this room?

Celeb Fashion Sundays!

This week I thought I'd pay homage to one of my favourite yet mostly out of the limelight celebs, America Ferrera. I was first introduced to her from the show Ugly Betty. When I saw pictures of her "real" look and not just what she looked like when playing Betty, I was stunned. She's absolutely gorgeous and has (what I think is) an amazing figure, and she knows how to dress it up to show it off. She always looks glamourous and put together.

Seriously, this is the transformation:
America Ferrera
Crazy, right?
Here she really glams it up. Notice how she always accentuates her waist to create an hourglass shape. I love jewel tone colours with her skin tone, they really make her stand out!

Even casual, America has got dressing her body down to a science. A belt over a billowy tunic or plaid button up with skinny jeans and a peep toe heel looks like perfection to me!!

She is really one of my favourite inspirations for fashion because she doesn't seem pretentious, and she also has a much more realistic body shape that women can relate to. Plus, it doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous!
